GEAK
The GEAK certificate
The building energy certificate, who issues it, and why a grant file often wants it before you start.
GEAK (Gebäudeenergieausweis der Kantone / CECB in French) is the cantons’ building energy certificate. The operators publish it at geak.ch. It rates the building envelope and the energy use. A GEAK Plus adds recommendations for the work.
An expert on the GEAK list writes it after a visit. A tradesperson who replaces a boiler is not, by that fact alone, a GEAK expert. This directory does not list GEAK experts and does not issue certificates.
Cantonal building-programme files often ask for a GEAK or a GEAK Plus before they pay a grant. Check the portal for the canton where the house stands: Zürich and Basel on the Gebäudeprogramm portals, Bern on weu.be.ch, Geneva on the Programme Bâtiments, Vaud on vd.ch. Those links are on the building-programme page. A certificate for a house in Zürich does not answer a form in Geneva.
The fee for the certificate is the expert’s, not a figure this page should invent. Ask for it in writing, and ask whether the visit is the same day as a heating quote or a separate appointment.
