Calling

How to phone

How the numbers on the cards are dialled, what to say in the first minute, and why the reply is usually German or French.

Every phone number on an English list is the number printed on the German entry for that business. This site does not place the call and does not sit in the middle of it.

How to dial

Numbers are printed the Swiss way, often starting with 0: 044 in Zürich, 061 in Basel, 031 in Bern, 022 in Geneva and Lausanne. From a Swiss mobile or landline, dial what you see. From another country, replace the leading 0 with +41. A number that already starts with +41 on the card is ready to use.

If nobody answers, send the written message from the trade guide the same day. A missed call is not a refusal, and it is not evidence about language.

The first minute

  1. Your name, and a number they can call back.
  2. The street, postcode and city. In Genève and Lausanne, use the French street name as it stands on the doorbell.
  3. One sentence on the fault: leak, no power, locked out, handover date.
  4. Say that a reply in German, or in French in Genève and Lausanne, is fine. Then switch to the message if the call is hard.

Do not expect the German page’s businesses to switch language because this list is in English. The normal case in Zürich, Basel and Bern is German. The normal case in Genève and Lausanne is French. A listing here does not say otherwise.

What not to ask this website

There is no account, no form that forwards a job, and no desk that rings the business for you. The button labelled Entry (German) opens the longer German card. The phone button is a normal tel: link on your own phone.
